#1 Hang Than (not the bia hoi but the busy seafood stall against a wall - southern corner) Only open at night.

Great cheap street seafood spot.  They serve the best mien xao cua in town (glass noodles fried with crab) and ngao xao ot (clams in a chilli lemongrass sauce), about 55,000 vnd per dish. Go the khaoi lang chien (sweet potato chips) too!

Bún Riêu Cua = tomato and field crab noodle soup, normally served with beef and fried tofu.

Great spot for lunch to satisy your craving for bun (rice vermicelli), banh da (flat brown coloured rice noodles) or mien (glass noodles) either with soup or without (tr?n).
Approx 30,000vnd per bowl.

They also serve fried sweet potato fritters for 10,000vnd each.

H? ti?u are probably my favorite kind of noodles.  Thinnish noodles that look similar to pho, but have a delicious chewy texture.  Served in a pork broth with slices of pork and bean sprouts.  This spot does a mean hu tiu kho too, which is hu tiu noodles topped with veggies, pork mince, pork slices, peanuts and dried shallots.

They also serve my v?n th?n (wonton noodles) and mi?n l??n (glass noodles with eel), but the hu tiu is better.

One of the few places in town selling H? Ti?u noodles (though not the best), which look similar to pho noodles, but are made from taro or tapioca starch and therefore have a chewier texture.

The best way to have it is to order h? ti?u khô which is the dry noodle dish mixed with beansprouts, minced pork, pork slices and topped with peanuts and dried shallots.  Comes with a small bowl of soup with three small sui cao dumplings - 30k vnd per serve.

More a casual style restaurant setting, this place is one of the few places in town to try ph? chua, which is a sour rice noodle dish (tamarind based) with pork slices, herbs and salad - 40k vnd per dish. This spot is so popular, it seems to take up half the street occupying several shop fronts.  They specialise in tasty bít t?t (Vietnamese beefsteak on a sizzling hotplate with fried eggs and fries - 60k per serve). In the evenings, the also sell a range of fresh sea shells and snails  if the greasy goodness of the steak is too much.
The mien xao tom (stirfried glass noodles with shrimp) is highly recommended and a bargain for 50k a serve.  If you're hungry, get a set for two people of 2 bit tet, a mien xao and cha da for 150k!

This place's a gem. Vietnamese run Japanese restaurant with a limited, but tasty menu, specialising in Jap pancakes (banh xeo nhat ban or okonomiyaki) for only 35,000 vnd each.
They also serve takoyaki (grilled octopus balls) 25,000 vnd for 5, kim-chi (20,000vnd) and noodles wrapped in omelet (45,000vnd).

Bia Hanoi is only 15,000 vnd and Sapporo is a bargain at 40,000 vnd a pop!

This is the place to come if you've been craving a dark beer. Czech-style brewery in a beautiful villa with a lovely courtyard setting...perfect for some Sunday arvo beers. 48,000 vnd per pint. They also have Czech Budvar beer, one of my favourite pilsners. Food is pretty decent too!
Expect to spend 200k for a couple of beers and food.
